Nick Mahony is a Perth based artist. He majored in Painting at Curtin University. His artworks combine everyday photographs, high art signifiers, utilitarian objects and materials, repetition and the handmade to produce art dioramas informed by a theoretical understanding of the social mechanics of art production, distribution, exhibition and consumption. His art tends to contain all the hallmarks of postmodern art production: a knowing wink and a nudge to the knowledgeable reader of art history and theory; a dash of personal reflection and humor; the appearance of aesthetic servility; and a codified politic served up in the usual showrooms of cultural products.
